The design, layout and massing of the building envelope has been sculpted to sit comfortably within its context. It has been important to carefully design the public realm and courtyard to knit the existing and proposed together within the wider site. At Alpha street, the proposal takes a modest, contextual approach, with proportions and detailing drawn from the immediately adjacent neighbours to sit comfortable within the established two to three storey residential streetscape.

A rational, residential scale façade grid is overlaid with a material change to the podium to break the massing and define the entrance. A contemporary interpretation of a traditional shopfront on Rye Lane gives the street frontage a human and welcoming scale.

The Rye Lane frontage uses a confident, high street palette of brick and metalwork that feels rooted in Peckham’s existing shopfront character, while introducing a crafted, contemporary interpretation of Rye Lane’s decorative traditions. Alpha Street proposes a softer and more traditional London palette to seamlessly blend with the neighbouring dwellings whilst retaining its own identity.
