Bosch HQ

100k SQFT commercial space for Bosch HQ within listed estate in Denham.

Working with Bosch on the design of their new 100,000 sqft UK headquarters, the project explores how workplace architecture can become a direct extension of brand identity, innovation and customer experience.

The proposal rethinks the traditional corporate office, creating a dynamic headquarters environment that balances high-performance workspace with immersive brand engagement. Central to the approach is the idea that the building should not only support the day-to-day wellbeing of staff, but also communicate Bosch’s values, technological leadership and future-focused ambition to every visitor who enters the space.

The design strategy focuses on weaving key brand themes throughout the workplace experience, from arrival sequences and customer touchpoints through to collaborative working environments and social spaces. Visitor-facing areas are conceived as experiential environments that showcase innovation, engineering precision and smart technology integration, helping transform the headquarters into both a workplace and a live brand destination.

Alongside this, the project places strong emphasis on employee wellbeing, creating a healthy and inspiring environment that supports productivity, collaboration and long-term comfort. Natural light, biophilic interventions, social connectivity, flexible work settings and wellness-led amenities are integrated throughout the building to encourage interaction, creativity and a positive workplace culture.

Natural light, biophilic interventions, social connectivity, flexible work settings and wellness-led amenities are integrated throughout the building to encourage interaction, creativity and a positive workplace culture.

The design approach draws inspiration from the rich graphic language and bold visual identity of historic Denham travel posters, particularly the expressive Art Deco compositions that once promoted the area as a destination connected through movement, optimism and modernity. The posters’ strong geometric typography, layered shadows and striking contrast informed an architectural language centred around clarity, rhythm and sculptural form. Much like the posters themselves, the interior experience seeks to create moments of visual impact and memorable identity through carefully framed views, bold material transitions and a confident interplay between light and shadow.

The graphic simplicity and handcrafted character of the posters also influenced the balance between refinement and warmth within the workplace. Rather than creating a purely corporate environment, the design explores a softer and more human interpretation of modernity, taking cues from the posters’ tactile qualities, muted tones and stylised depictions of landscape and architecture. This translated into a series of layered spatial experiences that combine elegant detailing with moments of colour, texture and artistic expression, helping establish a headquarters environment that feels both timeless and distinctly rooted within Denham’s cultural identity.

Set within expansive listed grounds, the building sits lightly within the landscape, using transparency, proportion and restraint to establish a calm and elegant relationship with its surroundings. Rather than dominating the setting, the architecture allows the mature landscape to remain the defining character of the site, with long views across open lawns reinforcing a sense of openness, serenity and connection to nature.

One of the most technically ambitious interventions within the headquarters transformation was the creation of a new sunken auditorium carved directly into the existing structure, requiring a highly coordinated excavation beneath the live floorplate and the careful threading of new foundations and transfer conditions through the retained structural grid while maintaining the integrity of the building above. This complex engineering operation allowed the design team to dramatically reshape the internal spatial experience without impacting the calm horizontal presence of the architecture within the listed landscape setting. The intervention unlocks a generous volume at the heart of the building, creating a flexible gathering space for large-scale customer presentations, product launches, collaborative events and internal team forums.

The workplace design is organised around a clear and simple linear axis that maximises visual connection to the surrounding listed landscape, allowing the external environment to become a constant backdrop to the daily working experience. Long open sightlines and carefully aligned circulation routes create a calm spatial rhythm throughout the floorplate, reinforcing clarity, orientation and ease of movement while drawing natural light deep into the building. Positioned alongside continuous glazing, the primary workspace zones embrace expansive views across the parkland setting, helping blur the boundary between interior and exterior and creating a quieter, more restorative workplace atmosphere. This restrained planning approach allows the architecture, landscape and working environment to operate cohesively, supporting wellbeing, collaboration and a stronger sense of connection to place.
