A soft and natural material palette ties into the conservation led response. Composing a series of building's that have a holistic, simple and elegant language which reflects and embraces the core values set within the Orchard Road Conservation Management Plan, responding in a contemporary approach that is fit for modern building methodologies.
Rotation of the units and maintaining key offset distances was a necessary step to unlocking the site, whilst providing an elegant forecourt for the residents.
A high-quality red brick and tile palette has been chosen for this scheme to echo surrounding context and the character of the Conservation Area.
The brick will respond positively to the adjacent residential developments and reflect the once industrial nature of the site. The proposal is to use two varying palettes (within the brick and tile) to highlight key features and arrival moments of the scheme whilst grounding the building with a tiled podium.
The new homes comprised of two storeys plus roof accommodation arranged across two blocks. Three of the units are three bed terraced houses (rear block) and three of the units are four bed terraced houses (front block). The dwellings provide a range of 6 person to 8 person homes.
