The Marina Arc, with its strategic position in South Mumbai, offers the perfect backdrop for this innovative project. Bounded by the Arabian Sea to the west and surrounded by vibrant neighbourhoods like Haji Ali, Mahalaxmi, and Prabhadevi, the area has long been a sought-after location for both residential and commercial developments. The area’s improved connectivity to the western suburbs further enhances its appeal, making it an ideal location for a landmark project of this scale. This visionary project is set to redefine the city’s landscape by blending architectural innovation with environmental consciousness.
Drawing inspiration from Mumbai’s iconic Queen's Necklace—a breathtaking stretch along Marine Drive that glitters like a string of pearls at night—the design will embody the elegance and fluidity of a pearl necklace woven into a figure-eight pattern. This concept not only pays homage to the city’s cultural heritage but also introduces a modern, dynamic retail loop that captures the essence of Mumbai’s vibrancy and energy.
Architectural Concept: The retail loop is envisioned as a continuous string of pearls, creating a seamless flow of spaces interconnected in a figure-eight formation. This unique configuration optimizes space and enhances the shopping experience by guiding visitors through a journey of discovery. Each “pearl” in the loop will be a distinct retail or experiential node, offering a diverse range of luxury brands, local artisans, and interactive experiences that cater to the eclectic tastes of Mumbai’s residents and visitors.
The exterior façade of the buildings will draw inspiration from the concept of a woven fabric. The design will incorporate patterns that mimic the intricacy of weaving, symbolizing the interconnectivity of Mumbai’s diverse cultural tapestry. This woven façade will not only be a visual representation of the city’s rich heritage but also a functional element that provides shading, reduces heat gain, and contributes to the building’s sustainability goals through rainwater harvesting and air purification.
Sustainability and Innovation: In a city like Mumbai, where air pollution is a significant challenge, this project seeks to go beyond traditional architectural design by integrating innovative air purification systems. The building will be designed to incorporate green walls, air-purifying plants, and cutting-edge filtration technologies that actively cleanse the air. This feature, while ambitious, aims to create a healthier environment for both visitors and the surrounding community, addressing one of the city’s most pressing concerns.
Sustainability and Innovation: In a city like Mumbai, where air pollution is a significant challenge, this project seeks to go beyond traditional architectural design by integrating innovative air purification systems. The building will be designed to incorporate green walls, air-purifying plants, and cutting-edge filtration technologies that actively cleanse the air. The interior design adopts a restrained, minimal palette that echoes the fluid geometry of the arc, allowing its sweeping lines to intuitively guide movement through a series of interconnected hybrid spaces. Subtle variations in soffit articulation and floor patterning gently choreograph footfall, reinforcing the spatial flow without overpowering it. Moments of softness are introduced as greenery appears to spill seamlessly from the façade into the interior, blurring the boundary between inside and out and enriching the overall spatial experience.
Allowing the various spaces to overlap creates a richer, more energised environment where boundaries dissolve and experiences begin to interweave. Rather than operating as a series of discrete zones, the retail offer is reimagined as a layered, multi-sensory landscape, where movement, sound, texture and activity bleed into one another. This overlap encourages users to fully immerse themselves, discovering moments organically rather than following a prescribed path.
Traditional retail is therefore transformed into a dynamic spatial experience, where programmes intersect and amplify one another, hospitality spills into circulation, social spaces emerge within retail, and moments of pause are embedded within movement.
